Rubber sealed bearings

Performance wise there's little difference. The advantage of a rubber seal is it can be removed in order to add fresh grease. A metal seal is good where high heat is present. However; once dry they have to be relpaced.

If someone added grease as often as needed would they still dry out at some point, or is the grease enough to keep them from drying out?

If it's a quality bearing, it can take a very long time before something like that happens; possibly many years.

I bought sealed bearings from VXB bearing in LA Ca. and to my surprise the bearings hardly had any grease in them - probably about a bb size amount of grease

I put the bearings in a rear wheel hub and after a few rides I could hear the rear wheel squeaking,
I inspected the bearings, removing the rubber seal to find what looked like no grease in the bearing,

I popped the rubber seal off another new bearing and it only had a bb size of grease in it
Obviously not enough grease ,

I added grease to all the bearings I bought and now I'm going to make it a common practice to check/add grease to all sealed bearings I buy no matter who the manufacturer is

Popped the seals back on and now i know the new bearings have enough grease
