Removing "crank shaft" for shift kit

Hello I am putting a shift kit on my bike and it is required that I take off the "crank shaft" or axle and install a new one that came with the kit. I cannot get past taking off the crank arms because these things holding the axle in place won't come off. Anyone know how to get these off without special tools or what tools are required? Thanks in advance
