Actually this was the first. It was an Iron Horse that didn't last long because it was an aluminum frame.

I almost forgot, Goat Herder also built a full suspension bike around that time as well.

I didn't mean to sound like I'm bashing because you're friend's bike is pretty cool especially the way he mounted the engine. It's probably the first china girl full suspension bike.
