Push out Crank Pin?

Can I do it with a hydraulic car jack, a rhinocerous, a hammer and a punch, some heat and a hydraulic car jack.
And how would I get it back on?
Cold pin, hot halves, and a jack?

Is the bearing size universal?
 
I used a harbor freight 20 ton shop press to press apart a crank. The big end bearing is a fairly common size you can buy fron a bearing house.
 
I'd probably have to find a machine shop or a garage to press it out, then press it in?
Off to the harbour freight website for now, just to look.

PS, might be able to rig something up with a bottle jack, must it be
at least 20 tons?

I heard rumors they push them in by hand over in China, without using heat or lube.

So, over here in North America, we need at least a 20 ton force eh?
 
I don't know about that, but they don't just jump apart lol. It takes some force. You could probably make due with a 12 ton press, but 20 ton is easier.
 
A press is the best way. Beg, borrow or find a machineshop.
Napa sometimes has one...
 
It's the satisfaction derived from fixing your own chit and making it work, not just buying new parts and slapping them on.

And spending the least as is possible plays a factor as well. It's not like I am going to pay a lot of money to fix a 35-40 dollar crankshaft, unless it's the only path to satisfaction.
 
If you have a crank with bolt on counterweights just use screws in the holes to push the crank apart.
