plastic carb intake manifold connection ("gasket"?) broken?

the spacer/gasket like internal plastic lining of the connection to the "intake manifold" is brittle and there is a cut it. do i not want a tight seal between the carb and "intake"? will some liquid gasket maker be alright if so?

Gasket seal works great on the carb screw threads to stop leaking. Another plastic gasket cut to size under the rubber one seals a tank leak.

mr. john, i like that. if liquid gasket doesn't work i'll probably move to that. i wish i had more time to goof around with this stuff.
