Pedals Keep Moving While Engine Engaged

My son has a motorized bike and when you ride the bike and the engine kicks in you will ride for maybe a block and all of the sudden the pedals will start moving on their own and you can't stop them until they stop themselves. Any ideas?

We'll need more information about the bike and particularly the rear hub/wheel type. Does it have coaster brakes (pedal backwards to stop) or does it have rim brakes? Your problem is in the rear hub which should have a free wheel mechanism. It sounds as if that portion of the mechanics isn't working correctly. It doesn't have anything to do with the engine unless it is a real weird, non-standard engine installation. Some pictures would be very helpful.

most likely you forgot to put the coaster brake arm strap on the frame, or the cones are too tight in the rear hub.

but as Tom wrote, we need more info.
