old people vs new stuff

just got a magna in a box - opened and found a weird part that is not in manual

do they make some kind of cage these days maybe to protect freewheel from getting tree branches stuck in it?

just a heavy wire cage that looks like it bolts to frame just over freewheel

anyone seen suchlike?

I've seen those on some of the mountain bikes I've had or have stashed away waiting for their turn to get an engine... it looks like it's there to protect the derailleur but could just be removed and discarded. ..

thanx, I know precious little 'bout bicycles - been doing this many years, but can't work up much interest in the bike part
