Mid drive ebike kits

i am thinking of getting a bafang bbs-02 750 watt midrive kit now i am trying to figure out a way to add a small honda generator so that i have a hybrid bike
so is it possible to charge a battery while using said battery

The last thread I read on the subject said the generator cannot charge the batteries as fast as the motor discharges them. However, the gas motor in the Chevy Volt only charges the batteries and does not propel the car, so it must be possible under certain conditions.
