Just an insight if you mount the cdi on the seat post tube it gets hidden behind the motor and makes everthing look that much cleaner!
 
I'm going to suggest sticking thick ally strips along the weakened section with epoxy adhesive or a more modern 2 part cyanoacrylate or a polyurethane twin pack. Remembering first to go down to bare metal to do it.
