Kill switch installation?

I plugged the red/yellow wire from the kill switch into the connector of the white wire coming from the engine. The engine keeps running when the kill switch is pressed. Any suggestions?

what about the other wires? How are they connected?
The white wire is usually used as an output for a light, and not for engine-killing purposes.

If I had my way the white wire would never be installed from the factory.
Cut it, insulate it so it can't touch anything and spilce the two kill switch wires into the the blue and black from the CDI.
Here's a diagram for you. Forget the 'optional method' and wire it like the diagram.
