Is this normal?

Just built a 48cc skyhawk bike. Used the 8 ounces of oil to a gallon, ran the bike around neighborhood for about 10 minutes. Upon return to the garage and after shutting off the engine the catalytic muffler was smoking, (white smoke). Is this normal for the break in?

the oil will smoke some, and if it's new, the paint might be burning off the muffler.

did it smell like burning oil or burning paint (or burning shoe rubber?)

ya its normal and until its broke in good and you lean it up you will probablt see oil dripping from the muffler, frank

8 oz. of oil per gallon is a lot of oil! Try 6 oz. per gallon (24:1) for the break in, & then change it to 32:1 (4 oz per gal.)

alright it seems normal, after riding it a few times today seems that the smoke has disappeared, thanks for the input
