Installing Air Filter onto CNS Carb?

Is it possible to take off that black piece and install an air filter there?
I'm looking to do that within the next few weeks to month.. depends on if it's possible without having to get a new carb..

If it is possible, can someone type out some instructions and tips about how to do it correctly and how to exclude as many issues as possible?

That is the filter cover, it mounts with two screws on some through the cover and on others the screw is on the side. A SBP air filter will fit a cns2 or nt carb. The pic. you posted is a nt.
