I have an idea for a three speed system...

Hi, I've been hard at work building my first (functioning bike) and was wondering if an idea I had would work. The bike doesn't have pedals or cranks, (it has pegs mounted away from the crankshaft) and that taken into consideration, I was wondering if it would be possible for me to create a three speed mid section driven bike using an extra crank gearset I had lying around. As for mounting, I was thinking of having one small freewheel hub below the engine connecting and spinning the gearset at the other side of the crankshaft going via a second chain to the single sprocket on the rear wheel.

Any thoughts?

Are you suggesting something similar to a shiftkit without peddles? Then are you planning on using that to drive a 3 speed hub?

sounds possible to me :) . I put my middle hub above the tire.

I roll this hub. http://www.niagaracycle.com/categories/torker-tri-star-3-speed-coaster-brake-hub
