Hello - building kit bike to Triumph Bicycle

pedal start is the way to go from a dead start, those clutches are not really designed to take the full brunt
 
Looks like I have the same exact bicycle. I was wondering how to get the pedal clearance. Was the replacement spindle much longer than the original for pedal clearance on the left side?
