There is some stuff out there for modding the HF welders, some diodes and capicitors and it makes a decent little DC welder, and another mod involving a capicitor will smooth out the wire feed and another with a choke coil will give you a little more voltage control to make it a decent sheet metal welder. I mean if you get sick of it the way it works, you don't have a whole lot of money into it so have some fun with it. I myself am holding off on the modding as it works just fine out of the box, but spring is coming and I am focusing on my bike, who knows what next winter will have me doing.

I use on of those compact little inverter-tyoe welders. Mine's a Forney AT-100, but HFT sells a version, too. So small and light, you can hold it in the palm of your hand. Its easy to add TIG capability to it, too.
