Karl Drais (April 29, 1785 – December 10, 1851) was a German inventor and invented the Laufmaschine ("running machine"), also later called the velocipede. This incorporated the two-wheeler principle that is basic to the bicycle and motorcycle and meant the beginning of mechanized personal transport.

You know at first look, it appears to be a rather insignificant idea for the time Nobody could have guessed the future of it. Then when you think about it in terms of the time it was invented just the coasting downhill would have been a huge advantage to travel, if the only alternative was walking,
