Handling through changing trail in fork?

I keep looking at a Girvin fork I have. It probably will work good, and ride stiffness is adjustable through the viscosity of oil used in the damper.

The problem I'm having isn't the mechanism, but the look of the rear facing dropout. It just looks kinda funky, and keeps me from throwing it on a bike. I can reverse the dropout, or just move it under the fork legs, but I'll be reducing the trail.
How will that "actually" change, or effect handling?

that's a pretty crazy looking fork!

as far as trail goes, the more raked out it is the slower the steering. at slow speeds it makes turning more difficult. you have to actually turn instead of leaning. more rake is more stable at higher speeds, up to a point.

seems simple enough to try it both ways to figure out the best handling for you.
