Hi I have a expansion pipe with a glass pack style muffler at the rear. The other day the rivets holding the front cap broke and it fell off. My rear mount had come loose. Anyway when i picked it up it was heavy. The packing had become soaked with oil. So I used pliers then a 1/4" drill bit to reach in there and pull out the packing. A few turns with the drill would wind the stuff up around the bit and made it easy to pull out. It was packed very tightly. I put it all back together with no packing and the thing is quieter than it ever has been. Lighter weight and quieter, was a win win for me.
