Gas tank parts, where to find.

I've built one gas tank and I got the filler neck, cap and threaded outlet where the petcock goes by cutting them out of an old peanut tank. I'd like to build another one, but I don't want to cut up another perfectly good (though ugly) peanut tank. I need the filler neck and outlet fitting to be steel but searching for these things on google has caused my bald spot to double in size. Does anyone have a good source for at least a steel filler neck?

How about lawn mower gas tanks? A lot of old ones are all steel round, sqare, all shapes. Find someone who repaires and they have a bunch. Just a thought........Curt

WOW!! they have everything I need and at good prices. Thanks Bill!

This is why I come to this forum, no matter the question someone always has an answer.

And to think, if I had just thought to search for "bungs" I would have found it sooner and saved some hair.

that was a good link az, added to my favorites. And Tim had you just googled "bungs" you would have gotten alot of porn hits ..lol

LOL, it never occurred to me because of Bevis and Butthead. Thanks to them I only think of the word "bung" in the wrong context.

Another source for filler necks and vented caps:

Speedway Motors

I just ordered one for a tank I am getting ready to layup out of Fiberglass. I am thinking this will fit the bill for that application if I punch several holes around the flange to make sure it doesn't break loose in the layers of fiberglass and spin.

I have heard that fiberglass and epoxy resin is reactive to ethanol blends and has in some cases separated. Anyone else have any info on this? What if it is well lined with a non-reactive 2 part liner before use?

I am thinking of either a bung with a knurled flange for the petcock or laying up the fiber tank onto an aluminum base with a welded bung and a formed tunnel and mounting studs welded in place for a through the frame mount. Might make for a nifty reserve if I can find a 2 position fuel valve.
