Flower nut hitting the inside of the case cover

Am I correct to assume that when the clutch is disengaged (pulled) and the flower nut rubs the inside of the case that I can shorten the clutch shaft slightly by removing the clutch cable anchor bolt and tightening the ring nut around the clutch?

I do realize of course this would make my clutch much tighter.

Theoretically would this work?

First, try going to the other side & tightening the nut that's holding the drive sprocket onto the clutch shaft. (that should pull the entire clutch assembly back to that side of the engine)

I use a small piece of chain doubled up on the sprocket to hold it while tightening the nut.
