I used a flat belt for the secondary drive on my first build.
The driver pulley was made from 2 V-belt pulleys bolted together with the inside flanges turned off.
The driven pulley was made from a 24” x 1.75 bicycle rim with custom made brackets to attach it to the rear wheel.
I originally tried to use a 1" wide leather belt from John at Leather Drive Belts, http://www.leatherdrivebelts.com/index.html and even though he offers free trim after the belt is run in I didn’t design enough travel in my tensioner to work with the weather sensitive leather.
So I ended up using a automotive 7 rib serpentine belt flat side down.
It has worked quite well and I got 500 miles on the first belt even though it was damaged early on when a couple of screws backed out and badly marred grooves into it.
