Ever used an electric generator?

I don't know if this has been covered before or not, didn't find it. I was wondering about using a generator from like, I don't know maybe a table saw? Would this work or would it be to heavy? I heard of converting an alternator into a motor. Would this be about the same thing and would it have enough power?

You need something with a DC current. Table saws are AC. Unless you mean run a gas generator to produce an ac current then use that to run an ac motor.
