Doodle Bug w/friction drive alternator & k/start

Ok this started me thinking about hacking the like into an HF engine and where can I find a suited friction drive alternator.... How does this work I hear say something about electric motors that generate current when turned...... is this true? I love the kick start. Sad that these engines are so rare they sell at over 6-800 on ebay when they come up. I'd sure like to get my hands on one.

I think Wayne and Glenbo used a Kubota alternator as a friction drive on the front wheel. Interestingly, I copied the same pictures from Ebay and had the same thoughts.
