When it comes to disc brakes not breaks, both hydraulic and mechanical have their pros and cons. As for sheer stopping power hydraulics wins that battle. However, locking wheels up isn't a good thing; it can send you into uncontrollable skids.

My advise unless you have the tools and skills to work on hydraulics stick to mechanical disc brakes
