Clutch pull question

I have a zoom 66cc slant motor, pretty standard design. The clutch arm faces the back tire when engaged. To disengage it needs to be pulled 90 degree to the right so that it points toward the original sprocket. Ok, thats the easy part and it works great. But this is about a 2-3" motion. The clutch handle only pulls about 1" from full open to total closed position. How is the clutch supposed to be disengaged with the handle? The cable is tight and it works correctly except there is not even half the pull distance needed to engage the clutch. Looking at the distance the clutch ar
M needs to turn, nobodys hand would be big enough to squeeze such a handle.

Behind the clutch arm cover is the sproket,,,in the middle (center)of the sproket is a steel rod and behind that is a steel ball ,,,are they both in there?

The star nut may be too tight pulling the center bar it threads on to,too far in and the clutch rod and ball are having to far to start pushing it to dis engage

there is a sticky note on clutches and many threads

I'm thinking check for the rod and ball,if there grease and put back togeather and go to the other side and adjust the star nut first (on the clutch cover side)

while you look at the ball and rod ,look at the part of the clutch arm shaft ,in the cover,that touches the rod ,and observe that the flat part will be straight front to back when the clutch arm is in the correct position,remember that position and work from that point when figuring out the other adjustments to make it work,as in, set the clutch cable and arm in the proper position ,squeze the handle bar lever and lock ,then adjust the star nut on the right side
