I'm looking to build a motorized bike that can reliably take me about 12-15 miles round trip daily. Speed isn't all that important, as from what I can tell 20-30mph should be achievable.
I started a thread because even after searching through this forum and elsewhere online, I'm still a bit overwhelmed.
I don't have a bike yet- I was thinking I would get the engine first and then get a bike that will be the correct size. What about this kit? http://www.bicycle-engines.com/49cc-4G-T-Belt-Drive-Complete-Gas-Powered-Engine-Kit.html
I'm willing to spend a bit more to avoid junk, but maybe that one I just posted is junk- I don't know. Can I get something decent for less than $400? I saw some rack mounted kits that looked nice but $600 is a bit out of range.
Once I get a kit, how difficult will it be to install? I know that's a vague and subjective question, but if is too far outside my skill level I may be better off just pedaling. What tools will I need? Do I need access to a mechanic shop? I'm not a dumb person, but my mechanical training consisted of my dad telling me which tools to hand him when I was 6 years old.
Sorry for the long post. Here's a cartoon guy falling on his ass
