Has anyone seen this...found this site while looking for ideas for "tube" gas tanks (not sure if they have a real name"

I would love a tapered tube tank like on the 172 - 1923 - Radio "top right on the home page."

British Autocycles tended to use a Villiers 98cc 2 stroke engine and a 2 speed gearbox. Neither gear was marked "fast" though, but in the sense of post 1945 austerity measures, they were as much mobility as most working men could get.

There was a James Comet which looked remarkably similar to the little Simplex lightweights, by the way.
