Alcohol/Penny Stoves

Just wondering if anyone has any tips or suggestions on these little camping stoves. Most of my camping is done in a 70's VW bus so i could haul a regular size coleman stove but why. Just try to figure out what people have tried and use. These little stoves are perfect also to carry on a bike in opinion should one distance travel and camp along the way.

When I wrote my fictional short story about traveling on a bike, I found a design for a throw away stove made from a bean can and an alcohol tab. I thought that would be ideal for bike camping.

Mix gas and some dirt. Put in a small can, add 2 small rods of some type across the top as a spacer. Set your cooking pan on top and start cooking. If the heat starts getting too low just stir up the dirt and it will take off again.
