Adjusting the clutch

I am doing my project by myself and I have encountered what appears to be a two person job. I'm betting that there is a simple solution that I am just overlooking. The problem is that I can't seem to hold the clutch lever (engine side) in position, keep tension on the cable, and position/secure the stop all at the same time. Is there a simpler way? There is a slot in the end of the lever but it seems too narrow to slide the cable through. On the bright side I do have the engine running now!

Needle nose vice grips and regular pliers holding the cable push the clutch arm till tight and lock the vice grips. Then tighten the brass holding screw. Ajust the collar bolt with the screw. Tip take the carb off and you have more room! Arrrriba, YEEE Haaa (c)

Tighten the cable AFTER you loosen the adjusters at each end. Once you get the cable pretty close, you have a TON of adjustment to tighten the cable up with Remember to leave a 1/16" of freeplay in it.
