49cc gear wheel broken?

Hi Guys,

I was out riding last weekend when I heard an loud noise of something getting chewed up in my motor and jolted my bike pretty good. I could hear something rattling around in the motor, like little bits and pieces. I managed to ride it home without any issues besides the rattling noise.

Today I drained the oil and found chewed up plastic parts that looked like teeth on a gear. I got off every screw and bolt I could on the one side, but the crank case wouldn't open. Not sure what else I needed to get it open or if they are very hard to get open the first time?

I think the broken part is the gear wheel according to this diagram. Number 14? http://www.bicycle-engines.com/49cc-engine-parts-diagram.html

I found a parts site for the Honda, it looks like it called something else on this site though. http://www.ereplacementparts.com/ho...l-engine-parts-c-37657_37658_38011_64846.html

Has anyone replaced this part or know what it is? Is it an easy fix?

It some Honda motors its used as a governor, but not in our clone hs motors.

It's primary purpose is to lubricate the engine by kicking up oil all around, I would recommend replacing it.

You should be able to access this by removing the Side cover, on the side of the output shaft. The side case can be removed by using a thin flat head screw driver and care fully taping it out, making sure to do it evenly all around the cover. After you get past the guide pins it should come right off.
Hopefully this helps a bit.

I got the side cover off and found a lot of broken plastic pieces. Now I need to order the part. When I was prying off the side cover some other pieces came loose and I don't know where they go. What are these parts in the pictures?

Last night I convinced myself to buy the 79cc from HF. $90 shipped, pretty sweet. I'm planning on fixing this motor up and selling it.

Well the long rods are your push rods for the lifters
And the other two are what go around your cam shaft to push them up and down with varying shape of the cams lobe. Very critical components.

One other thing to add is you gotta align the arrow on the cam shaft with the the little dimple on the out put shaft gear, if not your engine will OUT OF TIME and will not run right.
You can google the Honda 50cc assembly diagram, there basically the same engine with some subtle differences.
