48T Sprocket Diameter?

If anyone out there has a 48t sprocket, can you measure the diameter? I am trying to figure out some things on my current build. I am wanting to know before I purchase one.

How about the chain is spaced 1/2"x 48= 24" around would that be close enough......."...Curt

I don't have a 48 tooth.

But let's suppose that you have a 44 tooth. It would seem that the diameter of the 48 would be the diameter of the 44 X 48/44.

So if you've got a 44 you can measure, then you should be able to calculate the diameter of the 48 from that.

Curt was correct. Take the circumference and divide by pi (3.14). I was flustered earlier and didn't think of it. I just tried it on another sprocket I have laying around and it's spot on.

Hmmm... 24/3.146 = 7.64
I'm thinking the 48 tooth is slightly bigger than that... But I just ran out to the garage and measured my 44 tooth at just around 7" so it's really close...
 
You guys have it. I was asked this question in the chatbox a week ago, it's a simple formula:

Teeth count * Chain pitch / Pi = general sprocket diameter

I had to figure this out 2 years ago when I needed to put a 76T on my pedal cranks for my shift kit's engine reduction. I ended up going with #35 instead of 4x/4xx as I didn't want to have a 12" diameter sprocket! :D

76 * 0.5 / 3.14 = 12.1"
76 * 0.375 / 3.14 = 9.08"
