With any vertical lawn mower engine or horizontal utility engine (pressure washer, log splitter, gocart) these engines are designed to run at 3600 rpm constant. you can run one of these engines at or below 3600rpm all day. once you get above 4000, you are looking for trouble. I do realize that people bypass or remove the governor to get 5000+ rpm. However, at this RPM, valves start to float, and internal failures are imminent (wouldn't it suck to pedal a bike home with a heavy engine on it?). Gear for 3600 rpm... these engines have a great deal of torque from idle up, you do not need much rpm to go fast.
