3 speed hub jack shaft

I’m planning a new build and I have seen a very few but also very vague ideas of using a 3 speed hub as a jack shaft . I have a hub and wanted to see if anyone has ever done this and is willing to share some info with me on how they set it up . Attached a second sprocket to the hub mounted or ant info that could help me out would be really appreciated .

What are you wanting to run to the left side of the wheel or the right side of the wheel? Is this a regular 3 speed IGH or a 3 speed fixed gear IGH?

if I was going to run I the rite side I think I would just make a wheel using this hub . I wanted to just make a jack shaft out of it and work it into the setup I have now . maybe make a mount to attach to the seat post. I just dont know how to attach another sprocket and what size it should be . I don’t know how to answer you question about the hub. I don’t know **** about hubs I didn’t even know what they existed until 2 weed ago. thanks for any help u really appreciate it

Post pictures of your bike. That'll give us a better idea of what you're working with. Many riders have done shift kit builds using a 3 speed IGH.

Chances are you have a standard 3 speed IGH. If so, then you could get the hub put on a wheel and get a shift kit. This would allow you to shift 3 engine driven gears.

If you're very lucky it's a 3 speed fixed geared IGH. If you spin the sprocket in either direction the outer shell will spin in the direction you're spinning the sprocket. A standard 3 speed IGH outer shell will only spin in one direction and won't spin at all if the sprocket is spun counter clockwise.

If it's a fixie IGH then all you'll need is a mounting bracket and a double sprocket. You'd then be able to use the fixie IGH like a 3 speed jack shaft to the left side of the wheel. This would be a way of getting 3 engine driven gears and no where as expensive as buying a shift kit.

My hub will only spin one way by turning the sprocket it freewheels if I spin it backward. do your saying have a new 26” wheel made ? I was thinking of doing that. than I was thinking I’d trying to make my own wheel using this hub . I’ll call around tomorrow to the bike shops and see if anyone is available to do that. is it hard to lace a wheel up ? Thank you for your input

Lacing a wheel requires a truing stand and an acquired skill to build the wheel. Sick Bike Parts makes a really good shift kit. My bike uses a Staton Inc Triple chainring shift kit. Though I have a rear rack mount shift kits can still be used with mid frame mounts. SBP is one of the sponsors of this forum.
