3 Speed Coaster Brake Hub Strength

Do those 3-Speed Shimano Nexus Coaster Brake Hubs handle the engine forces very well if I was to install a jack shaft/shift kit?

I had a shimano three speed.... it lasted me about a mile and then the axle bent and it shredded itself... It looked cool though and was fun for the mile!
