2 Base Gaskets on brand new engine?

some are very thin, some are very thick - may be 2 thins to try to make a thick, but more likely just a factory screw up

sounds like a screw up then - I've had 2 kits come in with cylinder backwards so exhaust is over drive shaft

Yeah, sounds like just a screw up... But my friends engine did have 3 head gaskets on it stock so you never know.

I agree... either that or they just felt generous and gave you a spare gasket, just remove one of them and press on....

That's right....2 THICK base gaskets on a brand new engine!

Poor quality control!

Perhaps it was made on a Friday??

I imagine the engine would have been difficult to start, or operate poorly at best with very low compression.

I plan on re-assembling with 1 base gasket, then checking piston to head clearance.

Should the piston interfere with the head, I will have to assume that the factory installed 2 base gaskets on purpose , due to a poorly made cylinder.

I wish I had a way to confirm that the port timing and deck height is correct with this cylinder. And that the factory did NOT install 2 base gaskets for a reason.....

Cylinders installed backwards.....

3 head gaskets....

2 base gaskets......

Any reason to split the cases and examine the workmanship inside?

Now Im paranoid!

it's OK to pull the top end to check a bit, but splitting the cases can cause problems that the casual user can't fix - you pays yer nickel and takes yer chance
