DSC07001 1024 After I have cut off the old muffler nipple I have ground it flat and will mate these two.

DSC06998 1024 Starting with a standard 3/4 inch black nipple
DSC07000 1024 After cutting and grinding there is some oil smoke. Also you can see the bevel on the nipple.
DSC06999 1024 Bevel the nipple to lay the first weld. Gets more penetration so that more of the nipple is welded to the flange.

DSC07002 1024 Looks good. Not exactly perfect but hey it will hold. Besides I like to grind and make many passes on pipe that I expect to hold.
