revs wont drop down after fitting reed valve

Like the title says after I installed a reed valve my engine races badly and won't idle - it either stalls or races with the idle speed screw making almost no difference? (speed carb(no idle circuit/pilot jet), new gaskets, ran okay before but did race after high speed runs briefly before returning to idle)

Take the reed block out and take it apart... Sand down the casting flash around the cage so the Surface is smooth around the ridge and alignment on the reeds is important putting it back together make sure all the sealing surfaces don't have casting flash causing you leaks
On a flat surface or a file ...
Indian head gasket shellac on the gaskets.. just a little to make them sticky...
Reeds are notorious for leaks and not sealing right out of the box and slapped on ;)

You probably need a bigger jet if it's lean and do you have a pipe on it? Adding anything will make it run lean and after break in .. on top of an air leak would make it race and run hot

My carb has no idle circuit or pilot jet  I wish it did...
After reading that you need a "ported" piston to get any benefit from a reed valve I removed it and the bike's running great again! And I don't have an air filter poking me in the leg! :)
Nothing obvious to me, but it must have had a bad air leak somewhere in the reed valve assembly. Thanks anyway, John
