My ebike is faster to any CA posted limit than all of those bikes and I have $3500 into it. It was faster than the 883 with the taller gear ratio, now with a .9 of that I haven’t yet lost to any Harley. I’m building a new frame right now that will increase rigidity and better overall performance and have far better use of space so I can carry about .7 cubic feet of supplies without bags. Onboard charger with J1772 car charge plug mounted. I don’t ride with my charger in a bag or backpack like most.

Actually... I would call that an 'Electric Moped'... It's not by any stretch of the imagination an actual bicycle.
Motorized bikes are defined by top speed and horsepower, not whether they are built on bicycle frames or have pedals. In our state the rules say our bikes are illegal motorcycles. Putting a motorized bicycle plate doesn’t make it any more legal, it just makes it less likely that your bike will get impounded when a cop can give you a moving violation instead. Get off your high horse already, it’s getting annoying.

Stealth Bombers were sold as legal electric bicycles when I bought this one in 2013. It came from the factory limited to 20 mph top speed, and 750w. The button on the left, that I installed, is for off road use only. 
The one on the right turns on the lights. This is what makes electric bicycles difficult to pegeon hole into a paticular classification for legal purposes, because at the press of a button it can meet any power requirments.
One time I lost power 8 miles from home, but I was able to pedal all the way, because of the 9 speed pedal gearbox. I think you could argue that any bike you can pedal for 8 miles is a bicycle, especially if the pedler is in his 60s at the time.

Having a button that turns your legal ebike into an illegal motorcycle makes your ebike an illegal motorcycle. If I had a sport bike stuck in 1st gear it would not make it a legal motorbicycle it would just be a slow motorcycle. I think a lot of you don’t understand how the law works. Most of our bikes are illegal. The legal types of bikes are the types with tiny engines or huasheng 50cc types that top out at 27mph, or in the electric world the pedal assist radrover, super73 types even though some of those top out 40mph. CA law was written around whizzer bikes with their 4hp and top speed of around 35mph.
we are not here to talk about legality. We are here to talk small slow motorcycles. Some are gas powered some are electric. Get over it. Ffs

Hold on there officer, your analogy doesn't fly. A 100 hp sport bike stuck in first gear still has 100 hp. My bike is limited in 2 ways to meet the legal requirments. 1. It has 1 hp, and 2. won't throttle past 20 mph (or anything else I want it to be). If you don't like my button, alright I'll remove it, and from now on I'll use my phone, or I'll hide a switch under the seat, but you don't know that when we're in court. You may still believe my bike is illegal, but good luck trying to get a conviction. The reason for my excessive speed could be because I'm the worlds greatest athlete. I just have to remember to pedal when you're watching lol.

Because I was 15 my license was restricted to "a motorcycle not to excede 5 hp". My Honda S90 had 8 hp, and the cops patroling the high school knew it. I solved that problem by never carrying my drivers license with me. If I got pulled over they gave me a ticket for "no license" instead of exceding my restriction. When I got to court I showed the clerk my license, and he would dismiss the ticket. That started me on long life of crime where learned to become very proficient at fighting traffic tickets. My record is greater than 50/50. I learned from President Bill Clinton that if you're now a lawyer, you're not qualified to know if you're guilty of anything, so I make them try to prove it evey time. It turns out the court system is totally F'ed up, and just showing up and claiming innocence you can often prevail. The problem is most people are afraid to try.

Hey I’m not a cop. I’m just telling it how it is. I’ve been lucky! Really lucky. It’s a lot better to remain silent than try to tell a lie that is so obviously untrue. My experience tells me cops don’t like people who lie. Lot better to not lie and not incriminate yourself, and the way to do that is to not say anything at all. Like I said before I got caught doing 75 in a 40. There was no way I was talking my way out of it. So I didn’t talk.

Good advise Tony, never incriminate yourself. I'm really not that worried about anyone making an issue about how much power my bike might have, especially since I usually run all the stop signs lol. Of course I do slow down enough to make sure no one will run me over. A lifetime of riding has taught me that following the law can get you killed on a bike. I ride in a manner that I feel is most likely tokeep me alive. Imo a 20 mph normie eBike is a lot more dangerous than my bike. I'd rather explain my actions to a judge than St Peter.
