What rpm level should an HS142F engine achieve, under no-load conditions? Mine is only reaching around 4100-4200 rpm.

At least 8000 rpm
Redlne is 7800
You have the tach on the wrong setting.
Try another setting.
No, I wish that was my problem, the tach is set correctly, the motor is just not running right. I checked all the obvious reasons ( carb settings, mixture screw, cleaned the black plastic jet located on top of carb with a small wire, adjusted valve lash to correct settings, checked for air leaks with starting fluid and installed a new magneto. it just has no power. this happened when I moved the motor from one bike to another over the winter. It was running perfectly before the swap, it's driving me nuts.

Also, it has the iridium plug, the engine starts and idles perfectly, up to the point it starts missing and running poorly.

Change the plug
Okay took the iridium plug out and put the stock plug back in and no change. I noticed the iridium plug was very black. A couple years ago I sent this carb to AGK for their "Bore & Rework"! Got it back and it seemed to work just fine, last year until now it has not run right. I took the carb off once already this spring, I have 2 other carbs but they won't fit the frame, either they hit the frame or there is no room for the cable.

I have a 142 and the cdi went dead. Ordered one from gas bike, would not rev and no power. Decided it was rev limited, ordered one from KC Vale, sq body like the one that went dead. The one gas bike sent was round body plug on the outside. Sq body plug is on the inside, and not rev limited.

i have a question. i have a ghost racer 7g belt driven and my jackshaft that the driven pulley is on is shot. the key channel is bored out. i went to gasbike.net and i saw a whole unit with the clutch and the pulley already mounted on the plate. so i was wondering would that for an 8g knight racer work on my 7g? it looks identical to what i have, but the only difference is on mine the clutch bell has the lip on it to hold the belt on but the 8g one does not. would that make a difference?
