When I want a part like that, I search thrift stores. LoL, I search em any way. Some great bikes for 10 or 20 bucks. But there are ways to go if your V's are not good enough. I have not tried the adapters but folks speak well of em;

My favorite front end set up, I have a worksman drum brake/wheel with v brakes. I use a duel pull leaver so they operate in tandem. It's over kill but I love the wheel but is more anti lock brakes that will get around to stopping you.
But unless your having a problem, think your right and sticking with what ya have works, cool.
Dave31 came up with a really cool thing for rears. Use the engine sprocket as a disc for a disc brake. I personally want the rear to stop before the front. (think of a jackknifing truck)
