It should spin with the chain. That is the chain tensioner wheel and you'll want to make sure that it is aligned with the chain. Also that it can't loosen and rotate into your spokes. Most, if not all tensioner brackets will need to be bent or twisted slightly to get the centerline of the wheel to align with the chain.
There are pages of discussion on that dreaded tensioner wheel, Mike. Use the search feature and type in 'chain tensioner' and you'll have lots of information to read.

I'll post a diagram that will help you understand what we mean by proper chain and sprocket alignment. It is one of the most critical aspects of building a successful and trouble free bike. That chain must be aligned and tensioned correctly.

Thanks 2doors. I'm doing my research now. I'm going to the library today to return my sons Lil enstiens DVDs so I'm going to be printing out some threads an diagrams for the rebuild, cleaning, and just general info for the proper lubrication, mounting an setting of engine, cdi, gas tank, and chain tensionor as well as stopping by auto zone for fuel line, filter, and hopefully petcock. If the petcock isn't their there is two lawnmower shops that may have it for small engines. Also someone said check out sears because they have weedwacker, lawn mowers, and other small engine machines that might use same size petcock. It should fit a 5mm fuel line. Then getting my green cleaner an time to give my baby a scrub down. I will be posting pictures of the process.

Mike,
The petcock that comes with the kit and fits the fuel tank is a metric thread, 10mm and is a machine thread, not pipe threads. There is, or should be a small red gasket between the petcock and the fuel tank.
If you can wait, there's a new petcock in that package you're waiting for. I hope your petcock isn't broken off in the tank. Is it, or just damaged?

Thank you again for your help.

2door let me see if I can find the pictures of the gas tank. I do believe it is broken off as the old petcock still connected to the bike has the end piece broke. Though if I rember correctly(I'm printing out some of your diagrams an threads explaining the removal an installation of back sprocket, function an repair of chain tensionor, an other good basic info I need to read) their should be enough metal that I can remove from gas tank with pliors.

nice pic & I've seen it before, but most bikes will be one of the leftmost two 'wrong' examples since the chain (straight or not) MUST clear both the frame & tire

the bottom diagram should show the tensioner a bit out of line with front sprocket and directing chain back into line with rear sprocket, as it ends up on most bikes

Ok.. I saw the pic of your tasnk, you can unscrew what's left of that petcock in the tank and the new one will go in there... Where it broke off at is no big deal since you can still remove it with a 13mm wrench...

Sorry crassius, You and I usually agree but I have to disagree on this one. The tensioner is a tensioner, not a chain guide. It should be aligned with the chain path. Not guiding the chain onto misaligned sprockets. The builder should do whatever is necessary to see that a straightedge will lay flush against both the drive and driven sprockets to properly align a roller chain. Using the tensioner wheel to correct poor alignment is wrong. The tensioner is there to adjust chain tension only.
I stand by my diagram.

Exactly. The old valve (petcock) should just unscrew from the tank and the new one will thread in. Just be sure you use the little red gasket that will come with the new petcock. Be careful and don't overtighten it. Use care.

Christmas in May!! First present for the "Beast from the East" bike. I named the bike before getting onto this site so now I have changes the name to "MotorBicycling.com friends forum build" or "Team MotorBicycling.com" Cuz this really is a team effort. To all the experts on this forum and on this build thank you for spreading the love of these bikes an the lifestyle of which goes with it. An to everyone who is starting a build, checking out the forums seeing if this is something you would be interested in pursuing this is the right forum, the right place, an of course the right people to be associated with. This is the only place to be when it comes to motors on bicycles, tricycles, and anything you can think of.

Xseler: I am speechless. You have made it possible to get the fuel line an fuel filter for the build. An the complete rear sprocket mounting kit. Thank you so much you made me an my assistant's day a special one to say the least. So I was out all day printing out pictures an setup up clutch and inside the wheel Axel(all of which I found on this site, I'll post on here momentary).

Tom(2doors) ill make sure to use care, guard red gasket with my life an when installing it should be tight but not excessive force. Thank you for the heads up because reading on here I hear a lot about vibration and bolts an screwa shaking loose so I was gonna crank everything with ALOT of force.

Also huge thanks to manic mechanic. I hope he's still on here because his engine diagrams an break down of clutch arm & lever an what order they should be in is going to make instaltion of bar and bearing a piece of cake. Hopefully lol.

I've found that a lot of determination and a little guidance will get you through most things.

Enjoy the adventure!
