I just got back from helping work a both at the Tulsa boat show.
There was a manufacture there from KC selling these cool Mopeds.
They had several models, but there 49 cc is classified as a motorized
bicycle.

These bikes were very cool, with billet parts, tig welded, stainless steel tank, just really
SLICK. A bit $$$$$ but very trick.

Yup... the Motopeds... These are really cool little toys here and you can get them as a kit of ready to ride, the engine choice lets the buyer chose from a 49cc up to 150cc Honda clone engines, Most people buy the Lifan engines when building these for their reliability as well as the parts being very interchangeable meaning one can buy a 125cc engine and swap the jug for 150cc etc. The biggest drawback about these is there's a considerable wait once ordered before it's actually delivered.

Dave these are no china made crap, no there made in KC. There hand made
in the USA. All parts are cnc machined & the pic's do them no justice.Go to
that site & take the time to do the pic by pic of the bike & check out the machine
work & the tig welding.Now the engine looks to be Lifan engines.

Buddy me being a retired tool & die maker I notice every thing when looking
stuff as this over.This is top notch.I don't live that far from them & plan to drive
up there & check out there operation. These remind me of sportsman flyer workman ship.

They look like they really are top notch machines, too heavy for me though. Me thinks I will change over how I am running jackshafts, makes much more sense then running the motor through the crank.

Fly... I'm very well familiar with the Motopeds... these are awesome bikes and first hit the scene about a year or so ago, the original builder sold the rights to another American company and they build them to order hence the slow wait to get one, even on their site they claim a 70 day wait once paid for due to the very high demand for these.
Definitely one of the best motorized bicycles one can buy. My favorite one is still the Boxxer, but sadly, they don't make them anymore, the Boxxer is kinda similar but uses a Morini 2 smoker so it's light, mean, and fast.
The motoped can be very mean with the 125cc engine and definitely wins in the appearance catagory... I'd love to get one of these and transplant a Kx85 engine in one...

I stand corrected too... I knew they were originally made over here but when the original designer and builder sold the rights to them to an American company I thought they were built in house... I guess they out sourced them as soon as they got the rights to them.. Still an excellent bike tho...

Well the owner gave me a invite to drive up. The first fellow said they were
made in Kan City. But no matter there CNC machined & Tig welded & very
well made, even if the work was done on Mars.

I plan to make a trip there soon.Two hour drive from here.

Most likely the parts are machined and welded in Taiwan but they are final assembled over here. I'm not a big fan of 4 strokers but I could easily buy one of these for the coolness factor and their excellent quality. The original ones were all machined and built in house, but when a larger company buys out the little guy they're going to find the least expensive way to have the major parts made.... even a Harley has many of its parts made over seas.

I like i. I would like to build one.
But, I'm a cheapskate. I won't pay motorcycle prices for a moped.
I do not mean to insult this product, but I think there would be a much larger market if they had a kit with a cheaper pricepoint.
Im thinking $500 for a frame & swingarm combo.
Why? Because that's all I need from a manufacturer, the rest of the parts I can source myself, without a huge markup.

Fact is, if they dont make an economical kit available, somebody else will. A chinese manufacturer will copy it, sell them for $300 bucks a frame, and rake in the cash. And then people will complain that the chinese are again copying sombody elses design. So as I see it, they have to offer an option to cheapskates like me, or they risk letting somebody else eat their lunch.

Call me a dick, call me whatever, I am simply stating well known market forces that have to be considered.

Well I must admit as Dave is spot on. They really do have a problem with there
parts supplier. They are out scouring there parts to Twain. That not a bad thing for the workmanship is out standing. But with that said CNC machine work is not much
more in the USA as it use to be. Once the program is written it's all down hill from there.

Yes our CNC operators are paid more. But our in house QC is right there & you have
no shipping & all that. They are losing sales & that cost much more than the saving
from abroad. Twain & Korea really do make very good stuff now days.

The Japanize have been out scouring to both for years. My Lablonde Lathe is a French clone from there & is my favorite of all.

The other thing about CNC machining is the ability to duplicate part after part with no human error issues after the G code is written and refined, then just about anyone can lock the part in the machine bed, hit a start button and come back after the CNC is done cutting to remove the part, clean off the bed, install the next block of aluminum and push the button again. The other part is that the G code can be sent anywhere in the world once it's written and as long as the machines are similar and calibrated the same it'll cut to the same exact dimensions every time.

Well on top of that Dave the CNC of today can compensate for tool wear & so
on. Many of them have the codes built in & much more user friendly & users do not
even need to memorize G-code any more. The operators just set the datum point
& load the tools. That why the cost of hiring operators to day is much less than the ole days.

No I don't understand why CNC machining is sent abroad any more. Japan has a manufacturing plant that uses just robots loading machines & does not even run
the lighting system most of the time to cut cost. Talk about efficient. No it's become
a programmers world for sure. There will always be a place for Tool makers as me,
but we are getting few & far between as we die off.

The problem is that for the same $ you can buy a pretty nice used crf 150
or small Yamadog

If ya want a dirt bike, get a dirt bike.
To me ( JMHO ) a motor assisted bicycle is just that.
A bicycle with a motor grafted to it.
The Motoped is a very small , and under-powered, motorcycle with peddles grafted to it.......
Still, it's a cool toy.
