hello guys im getting in to motorized bikes and i have a few questions:
1. i live in california, can i put a 4 stroke 80cc engine on my bike and ride like 20 mph on the bike lane and not break any laws?
2. is there an age limit to riding motor bike on bike lanes?

What area in CA do you live?
How old are you?

Yes, you are supposed to ride in the bike lane.............and

Motorized bicycles in CA are allowed 2 hp or less and not supposed to go over 30 mph.
There is no engine cc limit and in Jan 2015 the law will be updated to 4 hp or less.

You also need a drivers license with an M2 or M1.
Wear a DOT helmet.
Get the $20 lifetime motorized bike license plate from the DMV.
Left side mirror, horn, lights.

Thats the main points even though these laws may not be enforced in a lot of areas in CA.

what about the law that says you can ride at a speed of no more then 20 mph without a license/registration/title/license plate. your engine has to be 1000 watts or less...

The 1000 watts is the clue that vehicle code is for electric bikes.
406 (a) covers gas bikes.

406 (b) which you quoted is for ebikes only.

i live in sac ramento california and like you said these laws might not be enforced in alot of ares. are they enforced here. what happens if you break the law?
