ok thanks. i was told 1 oclock? do i put the washer before or after the lock washer?
I think if you use a star washer, don't even use a lock washer, just a washer.

If you're trying to advance the timing without using a key, make sure the rotor doesn't change position when you tighted the nut.

Better mark it with a sharpy so you can tell.

My buddys engine is a dog, and its a new PK 80 from Pirates any way what way should my friend turn the new ajustabel magnet to make it run better, it sputters slightly no power and sounds rich. Is turning it right advancing it and left retarding it, does he advance it or retard it?r.ly.

Turn the magnet counter clockwise to advance the timing. Don't go more than one keyway width. Try half a key way width first.

I know im just a dumby here, but what about this aftermarket product right here : http://www.jnmotorsbikes.com/Jaguar_CDI_p/jnm1195.htm

It has different selectable timing curves, and it claims to create a spark thats twice the power. What are your thoughts on me just getting this jaguar CDI box and avoiding messing with the magneto?
I have a friend that has one and his bike runs great. I ask the racers on the forum about it, and they said race bikes with them aren't any faster than the ones with a stock CDI. Some people have reported that their bike was smoother after installing one.

IMO they don't hurt anything, but don't seem to improve much either.

Thanks Biknut on your reply about what way to turn the magnet to advence the timing. Is there a proper way to titen the nut down so the shaft or magnet doesent turn off mark or does it perty well lock some what when the magnet is down, and will the lock warsher still work on the new adj magnet

There's not really a trick to it. I find it a lot easier to remove the magneto coil first. Then you can swap the magnet without much trouble. Once you remove the bolt on the magnet it shouldn't be much trouble to remove the old one. The shaft is just a straight shaft, it's not bevel or anything. Usually you can grab it and pull it off by hand. If it's on too tight, carefully pry it loose with two screwdriver, One on each side of the magnet.

I haven't had much trouble installing the MM magnet, but it could move. That's why it's a good idea to mark it first so you'll know.

I was wondering where you got yours from, they don't make them anymore I thought?

Hey everyone, probably not a very good first post but ive been reading along on a few threads here for a while now.

Anyway I seem to have lost the key that stops the magnet from free spinning, any advice would be appreciated, oh and by the way thank you to all who have posted so much good information thus far.

No kiden, a year ago can the gie that modified them Manic Macanic talk to them or get ahold of Pirate Cycles or some vender that would be interested in them. Or can I try to change the timing by taking the key out of the key way and try tighting the nut my self and see if it holds

Probably your best bet right now would be to try doing it yourself. I think it would be possible to remove the key, and try locking it down with a star washer.

The way mm did it was to cut a bevel in the magnet, and then made a bevel washer that fits in the bevel in the magnet.

Were can I get a star warsher, or can I just use a lock warsher
Hardware store comes to mind. Harbor Freight, but you probably will have to buy 500 of them. Possibly an auto supply. Home Depot.

Keep in mind, theoretically doing this wrong could ruin your motor. Mainly by advancing the ignition timing too much. Even if you get it right, keep a close eye on it at first so you'll know if the magnet shifts position over time.

Its realy my friends engine he lives next door, he was so disapointed with his PK 80 that he dont care if it blows, bu now he glad hes got a bike that runs anyway. He says SkyHawks are the best. I had a PK 80 ran strong, cops had it towed, anyway I'll tell him about if he goes to far with the timingl I hope we can tell by the plug chop. He blue one engine, plug looked lean and he ran it wot for about - miles, antway we got a Ace hardware, thanks for keeping me informed, Thanks Alvin
