Well done George. Did you get the e-bike kit because the police didn't appreciate your dinosaur powered bike or did you just decide that you wanted to build one?

I did it because insurance companies wanted to rape my wallet...I had about 3k saved to buy an old truck to pull my camper and tha bagsters after 20 years with state farm and no claims want more than $700 for 6 months coverage an a 1985 PU truck liability only. They can get right back on their blue horses..flg.

What??? Call around, dude. We're with Allstate, in Hawaii, and pay around $365 for 6 months coverage on 2 cars. One is liability only and the other is too new to go with less than full coverage. You should be able to get liability only, for that old truck, for way, way less than that $700 permium from SF.

Wow! The prices are coming way down and that's for a 48 volt kit. Sure is tempting. :D No dear.....yes dear.....I'll be right there, honey. :D

That's the best deal I've seen on a brushless motor kit ships from Michigan and I called the guy after placing the order to ask about an eta he was very nice talked to me for at least 5 minutes and had great customer skills set my expectations long out to Monday he said due to UPS sometimes stalling to get a full truckload.....he said they didn't use to do that.

I have called around and all the insurance companies are about the same come to find out I have 4 not 2 tickets all minor infractions so state farm won't even insure me and the $700 quotes were if I only have 2 tickets.

Ah, you got tickets. That kinda explains it, but yeah, they do come back like a rip off. I remember a minor rear ender. Damage repairs to the other car ran under $1000, but my premiums went from $800 per year to over $4000. This is after being with this company for over 15 years with no infractions. Loyalty goes both ways. I bailed and found Allstate. So far, no one's been able to quote anything lower than what we're paying now, even with a clean record. Can't expect a long time customer to stick around when they decide to put him in the poor house.

I guess with the higher cost of fuel these days, even UPS has to use it more "efficiently". Try to drive with full trucks. So much for their 3 day shipping, not that we ever got our orders in 3 days. Funny, out here we pay for the 3 day shipping, but it takes up to 7 days to receive it.

The only thing that's keeping me from ordering a complete kit is the size of the package. Along with the weight, I probably have to pay for oversize parcels as well. That's one reason why a gas motor kit was more appealing. It all fit in a smaller box and shipping ran me just over $30 via USPS. UPS would have easily been twice that amount. Add oversize dimensions and fuggetaboudit.

So far, all my ebike rigs have been bought locally off Craigs. All were less expensive than buying new kits and they included a bike. It's about the only way to afford to stay in ebiking, out here.
The only thing I have yet to purchase online are batteries. Locally, a 12volt 12ah battery can cost as much as $90. Online prices run as low as $35 ea. The math speaks for itself.

Well this bike is gonna have $700 in it by the time I get done with it but should pay for itself quickly...bus fare is $4 a day and takes forever! Some of the parts are for an old HT 2 smoker kit I still have and I wanted to play with different tooth sprockets to see which I like the best...I figured if I go with the 36 and use the electric for low end speed the thing is gonna go pretty fast once I kick the gas in and get great mpg too.

Well both kits made it here on the same fedex truck today the box from the e-kit was busted open but looks fine Dax package was packed like a pro and he beat the ebike kit by a day (I think the fedex truck driver knew I had 2 pkg and waited it's all good LOL)
I have the ebike assembled only have to move the controller will post pics shortly need to do some mods on the gas install I didn't buy the kit.

I had the pleasure of talking to both of these vendors and they both posess great people skills. Honest answers to sometimes difficult questions both were very willing to answer anything I needed to ask. Dax spen more time with me as we talked on off topic subjects we both enjoy. All in all I am a satisfied customer with both.

The ebike was easy to install for the most part but those batteries on the back rack gota go lower...solution they fit nicely in my craftsman tool pouch which can hang by the tube in front of the seat post MUCH better. I took her out for a spin went about 10 miles started to die I don't think I had it charged I'll do another test run tommorow. This bike is heavy I wouldn't put a novice on it. I also wouldn't put anyone on one that wasn't in pretty good shape unles they just plain didn't want to peddle at all it's a workout movin this much weight! Speed is an issue too had to slow down for the school zones they are 20 mph.

I have a 12 volt power supply from my camper rated at 15 amps if I hook the batteries up in parallel will that much amps damage the batteries? I have no good way to tell when they are fully charged other than maybe a cheap ohm meter. I'm guessing a full charge should read around 13-14 volts.

Full charge for SLA is 13.7 (.8) V and that may vary a bit , depending on a state of the batteries. Paralleling batts wouldn't damage them, it may affect range if you use different types (Amp wise). That means that current in different batts , wired in parallel , tends to equalize (one batt draws current from the other).

I would ask them if you can run that controller on 60v and if so, then I would run a 5th battery in series.

I'll tell you something tho, when looking at the price, i see that you could have forgone the battery and charger and saved 150.

Do they have any more of those? If so, i would LOVE one, especially with free shipping.

Well the 48 volt charger is like $80 and if you buy these batteries off his site they are $35 each X 4 so that's like $220 seperate but I now know I would have rather just bought the kit and batteries seperate I of corse want to get lifepo4 batteries...as far as 60 volts this thing has plenty of speed as is just not great range but I have heard the batteries take a bit to break in.

I moved the batteries in front of the seat tube and the thing handles bautifully...ran into 2 bike patrol cops they liked it. They asked how fast it went I said oh it'll get you down the road good!

Well after maybe 100 miles the ebike motor seezed up was hard as heck to push it home...man that was one expensive lesson dang near $400 all I have to show for it is 4 batteries. I am going to try to put the curry motor on next just need mounting bolts and some sort of switch. The guy that sold it to me said he never had one fail offered to send me another one but I am pretty sure when he sees a couple of wires had been spliced back together he would use that as an excuse to void the warranty...time to just count my losses.

i would send it back with an explanation about how the wiring happened. All you have to lose is the shipping. To get the most of those lipo batteries you need to be running a brush less motor probably one of those hub things to be honest. That comes from the guys on the model car and plane forums.

I haven't tried one with a currie motor so if you go that route let me know how it works out for you.
