Tandem..rear crankset

Does anyone know of a crankset for the rear rider on a tandem that will...

1. Allow the rear rider to stop pedaling while the front rider keeps pedaling

2. Allow the rear rider to assist in powering the bike when needed

3. Allow the rear rider to pedal backward to activate a coaster brake

I assume 1 and 2 are normal and standard but 3 may not be possible. This is not for a tandem, but for a single seat beach cruiser.

I have a 2 speed rear hub the requires backpedaling to shift and want to send engine power to the sprocket that would normally connect to the front rider.

The idea is to minimze hand controls and still have two gear ratios.

Thanks,

MHF

Yeah, look at the Kent cruiser tandem sold thru Walmart. It has a "freewheeling" stoker crank. It is referred to as a "Dual-drive".

Your number 3 won't be possible since the rear hub has only one sprocket and besides, it doesn't want to get confused.
