Rattling and ringing, old GEBE

I bought an older GEBE Robin 25EHO bike.

The previous owner said it was not used much. It is about 13 years old.

I am still cleaning it up and have not done any long rides.

There is a ringing/rattle/clatter at idle. There doesn,t seem to be anything loose on the outside of the motor.

I suspect the clutch, maybe it isn't retracting enough. Maybe idle is too high?

I ran the motor with the clutch removed, there was no rattling. So the clutch is the problem.

What can cause a rattling clutch? There are not too many parts in a clutch. Should I try to get a replacement spring? Or a replacement clutch?

One possible reason that is rare but it does happen: the shaft that is brazed or welded to the clutch bell broke at the weld.

I turned down the idle a bit so it no longer idles with a rattle. This does not fix the problem but is less annoying.

I am going to ride the bike to see if exercizing the clutch changes anything.

At the moment my theory is the clutch spring is the wrong sizen so I may order a new one.
