Paint??

I want to paint a few parts of my engine back like the clutch arm cover, magneto cover, clutch gear cover, and the head. What kind of paint should I use, any gloss too. Do I have to sand those parts down a lil. I dont want the paint to be coming off.

I have used engine paint from the auto parts store (it is fabbed for high heat)
all I did was a light sanding so the paint had something to 'bite' to, and cleaned with thinner to remove any oil residue

I like semi-gloss, it hides a lot
