Hello; New to the site, cool site, some great info. Like probably most of you I am interested in building (purchasing) a "Motor Bike" simply because they are cool, remind me of years ago, unique and affordable. I don't care about gas mileage or anything like that. I love anything with a motor and gears. I ride motorcycle, buy, sell and play with old cars and boats. I like the different or "non traditional" motorized collectables., e.g. I ride a Triumph to the local "Bike Nights" and drive a (trophy winning) 1975 Ford Maverick "Police Interceptor" to the car shows, got a couple of "T" shirts that say: "Everybody wants a Camaro" and "Anybody Can Ride A Harley". Don't get me wrong, love the Camaros and HD's and wouldn't pass up a good buy and had my share of HD's, just like the "non traditional" motorized stuff. So with that brief intro; few ?s for the group. Going to build me a motor bike...thinking of making it look like the old "Whizzer". I found many, many "engine kits" but the majority are "chain drive" and the "Whizzer" was "belt driven". So here are my ?s:

1. Is there an engine kit available which uses the (Whizzer) belt drive system?
2. If I was to buy and mount this on a newer bike, which model out there best looks like the old "Whizzer" model (appears to be the Schwinn or Huffy "Beach Cruiser" type)?

Hope to hear from a few of you and look forward to get going on this project.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum. It is just my opinion, of course, but I think the Huffy's look like the old whizzers. Not the cranbrooks, although they are very similar, i think the closest is the Huffy Nel Lusso.

As for the motor type, I haven't seen any that are belt driven, but I am still relatively new at this. I'm only on my 4th build, and my other 3 were all chain driven.

I found (thanks to some replies) the somewhat original "Whizzer" belt drive kits on eBay, but as I noted comparing them to the available chain drive kits they are somewhat expensive; chain drive kits running from $129.00 to $179.00 and the belt drive kit starting out at $799.00. I know many out there like the chain drive, but again....I'm looking to build a somewhat "old school" Whizzer motor bike. Not saying I won't do both, but we will see.

I believe I have and had some replies...but I will check it out again, thanks.
that's the part of this forum dedicated to Whizzers so i assume you will find Whizzer threads there and i'd bet if you started just reading some of the longer threads that would lead you to your answers.

...and it's often faster to go hunting for your answers than it is to just wait for them.

peace, bozo

my advice is don't buy a cheap toy store bike like a huffy. you can find plenty of good old bikes on craigslist or ebay, swap meets and yard sales, that will outlast any 89.99 piece of crap from walmart.

if you want something non-traditional, you don't build a walmart bike with a china motor. it's fine for the first time builder with a limited budget, but it sounds like you have some bigger aspirations and higher expectations.

i'm not knocking the china 2 stroke, i've done many crazy things with them (and so have many other people here) but if you want something to impress the car show guys (and yourself) you gotta look outside the box (store.)

Well your correct. I was looking for an older Huffy or Schwinn (1950-70s) and they are out there but it was the motor kits that through me. You mention the "china motor kits"., I haven't found many not made in China.....out of all the kits available...other than the "belt drive units" I really want, which ones would you suggest, if any.
