How do I get my mounting studs out?

My studs on the front mount of my China Doll engine don't clear the large tube. So I got a SBP mount.
Now, how the heck do I get the studs out of the engine case? Is there a trick? Are they righty tighty, lefty loosey. Help a newb out.
 
thread two nuts onto the stud, then tighten the two nuts together, the lower one counter clockwise and the top one clockwise till they are tight together. then with the wrench on the lower nut only turn counterclockwise to loosen.
Or you can crank down with a pair of vice grip pliers and turn counterclockwise to loosen if you are not going to use the studs again.
